The PADI Open Water Diver course is the first level of scuba diving certification. It’s your gateway to exploring our island’s underwater world on unforgettable Grand Cayman diving trips. Sunset Divers at Sunset House are qualified, experienced PADI instructors with a passion for introducing people to the incredible world of underwater exploration — and we can’t wait to get started with you!
You can begin your journey immediately with the knowledge development portion of the course and work at your own pace using the PADI eLearning system. This convenient, interactive study option allows you to learn anytime, anywhere. The eLearning portion of the course is payable directly to PADI, so please visit the PADI website for more information.
The in-water training phase of the course is conducted over two full days. This is where you complete the required five confined sessions and four open-water dives. The cost for the two days is $450.00 — however, we offer a discount for in-house guests. Equipment rental is included in this price.
Already completed your academics and pool skills with your local dive shop? We also offer the Open Water Referral course in Grand Cayman. Complete the final part of the Open Water Diver course with one of our Instructors in beautiful Caribbean conditions. Our Instructors will help you complete the required four open water dives from the shore right in front of our resort. This course is scheduled over two half-days.
Sunset Divers can also offer PADI, SSI, and Universal Referrals. The cost is $400 (discount for in-house guests) and includes equipment rental.
Our Open Water training sessions are run over two to three days at Sunset House utilizing our training pool and beautiful house reef. You must be comfortable in water that is too deep to stand up in, capable of treading water for 10 minutes, able to swim 200 meters in any style, and have the appropriate physical fitness and medical condition for diving. All applicants must fill out our Diver Medical Participant Questionnaire before booking.
