Let’s dive in!

Smith Barcadere, Grand Cayman

This little cove south of George Town is a tranquil gem. Also known as Smith Cove, this corner of beach is enclosed by rock formations, creating a secluded atmosphere and ideal snorkeling conditions. Parrotfish, angel fish, flounder and more swim among the corals, creating a kaleidscopic underwater scene. The shallows are also great for children to wade in, while the more adventurous can enjoy some cliff jumping in deeper waters!

While Smith Barcadere is not as busy as places like Seven Mile Beach, it’s easily accessible, with free parking spots nearby as well as restrooms and shower facilities. Emerald trees provide shady spots to lie under and there are a number of picnic tables to choose from. Bring a packed lunch and you could easily spend the whole day here.

Top tip: Smith Barcadere is just down the road from Sunset House and we offer a free shuttle to the beach upon request!

Seven Mile Beach, Grand Cayman

Arguably the most famous beach in Cayman Islands, and even the Caribbean, Seven Mile Beach is world-renowned. It frequently ranks as one of the best beaches on Tripadvisor, and it’s easy to see why. With its long stretch of white sand and endless waters, it’s like stepping into heaven.

All along Seven Mile Beach, you’ll find a number of smaller beaches, such as Cemetery Beach, Governors Beach, and West Bay Beach. You can find coral reefs right off the shore, with Cemetery Beach providing prime snorkeling opportunities. One of the best diving locations is right near Cemetery Beach — the USS Kittiwake. Join Sunset House on our Kittiwake Grand Cayman Dive to explore this phenomenal wreck, now an artificial reef.

Besides snorkeling and diving, kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, and sailing are all popular activities — and lounging in the sun of course.

Seven Mile Beach is lined with restaurants and cafes, meaning you won’t have to go far for a delicious seafood lunch. While hotels are spread across the beachfront, the whole of Seven Mile Beach is open to the public.

On Public Beach, one of the most popular beaches along Seven Mile, you’ll find all the amenities you need, including restrooms, showers, picnic tables, and cabanas. Chairs and umbrellas are also available to rent.

Point of Sand, Little Cayman

While the Grand Cayman gets all the attention for its beaches, Point of Sand on Little Cayman definitely should not be overlooked. This secluded beach is usually free of crowds, making it a quiet and pristine getaway. With soft sands and crystal-clear waters, it’s the idyllic place to catch some rays or enjoy a leisurely swim. It’s also perfect for snorkeling, with reefs teeming with marine life located right off the shore.

There are a few picnic tables where you can have a bite to eat, cabanas to catch some shade, and loungers to relax on. While there are no restrooms or other facilities nearby, this just adds to the rustic appeal. Make sure to bring your own food and drinks and any water sports equipment you may need. This is the place to be for as private a beach experience as possible!

Spotts Public Beach, Grand Cayman

Located in Savannah, Spotts Beach is the place to go to if you want to see turtles! While this beach is popular among snorkelers, who may have the opportunity to swim with turtles, sting rays, and fish, it’s also possible to spot turtles from the dock as they feed in the shallows. The current can be strong, so swimming and snorkeling is only advisable for proficient swimmers.

Whether you come here to read by the waters or go diving under the waves, this beach is a feast for the senses. There are plenty of shaded spots, as well as bathroom facilities available. Free parking nearby makes this beach an excellent alternative to busier locales.

You can find out more about other popular snorkeling spots with our blog What are the Best Places to Snorkel in the Cayman Islands?

Cayman Brac Public Beach, Cayman Brac

Away from bustling Grand Cayman, the Cayman Brac Public Beach offers a change of scenery. While Cayman Brac’s coastline is mostly ironshore, the Public Beach shores up white sands and blue waters. Located in Cotton Tree Bay, Public Beach offers decent conditions for swimming and snorkeling, while the numerous cabanas provide the ideal spots for relaxation.

Free parking nearby and public restrooms make this a well-appointed beach, but you won’t find many restaurants close by. Rather, pack a picnic lunch and set yourself up on the sands for a beautiful day!

Starfish Point, Grand Cayman

Starfish Point got its name for a reason — there are dozens of starfish lying in the shallow waters! Located in the Rum Point area of Grand Cayman, Starfish Point is easily accessible, with free parking and restrooms available. While the beach is small, you’ll probably find yourself wading in the waters more than spending time on the sand! The starfish are the main attraction, but it’s crucial that you do not touch or remove them from the water, as this kills them. These starfish are still wild creatures to be respected.

There aren’t many restaurants on land, but there is a floating restaurant in the middle of the water. It’s advisable to arrive early before the tour boats descend!
