This was my first dive trip, and Sunset House blew me away. Before arriving, I had looked up reviews of the facility, and they all said the same thing - the rooms aren't much to write home about, but the dive personnel and experience couldn't be beat.
They were right. This was, quite simply, the best weekend of my life. Trevor, Phil, Andy, Greg, and Simon (I apologize if I left out anybody from the boat) are all consummate professionals, and the experience could not have been better. They knew the best dives on the island, correctly estimated our capabilities, and were incredible hosts. My only complaint about the rental gear was the fins - they were uncomfortable full-foots that tore up the toes of our entire party (although the use of socks helped mitigate). That being said, I want to extend a big thank-you again to Andy for loaning me his own personal fins - a perfect example of the dive guides' willingness to go above and beyond. As to the dive sites themselves...beyond description.
The hotel itself is perfectly fine, albeit slightly plain. The rooms are clean, if a little bit antiquated, and My Bar deserves its reputation as one of the best spots on the island (although, having visited in the off-season, it was far from packed even on the weekends).
I highly recommend Sunset House to anybody thinking about a dive trip to Grand Cayman. One word of advice: the facility is not within walking distance of much of note (with the exception of a fantastic restaurant, Grand Old House, about 1/2 mile away). If you plan on taking a lot of trips into George Town or 7-Mile-Beach, rent a car - the taxis charge by the person, in addition to distance. A trip into George Town for 5 of us cost about $21 CI each way (about $25 US).

What a great stay! We just got back and are worn out tired but so happy we chose Sunset House. The staff was really tremendous and accomodating. They just went out of their way to make us feel comfortable and at home. Lorena at the front desk was the best, always open to helping us in any way possible from finding a place to eat in Georgetown or ordering Dominos.
Cathy Church's folks were really, really helpful as well. My first foray into underwater photography was a great experience. Theunis could not have been a better resource to ensure that I was happy with my purchase and having a wonderful time. Herb (hard to find because his name is not on his name tag) was very nice to speak with and Sparky (the African Gray Parrot) keeps the place running smoothly.
Sunset Divers are the heart of the place. Really fine staff. They really worked hard to ensure our memories, even keeping us safe from ourselves. Safety is always first but their professionalism exceeded any resort that I have ever been to. Mike runs the shop so must get a heaping of credit. Phil, Andy, Greg and Simon make sure everyone on the boat was safe and had great dives.
We specifically chose Sunset House so my 10 year old daughter could do her check out dives in a safe and comfortable environment because she had a bit of trepidation. Trevor did her checkout dives and should be cited for his professionalism and level of care. He really did a great job with her. Not cutting corners at all, he pushed her to achieve what she is capable of. This translated into self-confidence when we then did some boat dives together. She really got it and reminded this old divemaster of a thing or two.
My wife is not a diver, and we were concerned about staying somewhere that she would not have activities or a beach. This turned out to be a non-issue. After snorkeling all week she has come home and decided that she is going to get certified as well.
Sunset House was my first resort diving experience 23 years ago and now my daughter's as well. We just cannot say enough good things about Sunset House and look forward to many happy returns.

Any serious diver should visit Sunset House. Excellent value, top-flite dive operation, outstanding "house reef."
Since this operation is really geared towards hard-core divers, it's important to note that Sunset House is not for those seeking a Sandals-esque vacation.
However, for divers who are seeking a highly-focused dive destination that is geared toward dive junkies like myself, this is the place to go.
PS: Clean rooms, good food and great bar.

Hi All, I just finished a 5 day scuba trip and all I can say is stay away so when I return it won't be crowded. The place is awesome if you are looking to go away and dive till you drop. My buddy and I did not leave the place at all and logged 12 dives in 4 days. We ate at "My Bar" every night and had a great time. The crew is great and I support the conservative profiles, after all you can beach dive all you want; all you have to do is grab a tank and go. The rooms are clean, A/C works and cable TV. Would and will return.

To whom it may concern ~
After staying at the Sunset House and diving w/ Sunset Divers many times, over many years, the staff have come to feel like family, and the place like home. The ladies (and Grenroy) in the office are just plain great, the bar staff is wonderful (ask Larry for a joke), "T" at Cathy Church's is a wiz at helping you make sense out of your new camera, and the dive shop folks will spoil you. Always accommodating with a smile, they are knowledgeable, concerned about the safety of their guests, and want to make sure you have a great time. The only bad thing is, vacations don't last forever. I highly recommend this organization as a place for divers, that is second to none. Thanks, guys! Mark D

We just returned from 11 days of diving with Sunset House. We have been active divers for many years and have been to a great number of dive resorts, and, overall, Sunset House provides the most professional service we have encountered. The dive guides are real professionals with many levels of training and credentials. They carefully prepare the dive experience for minimal current and variety and provide for multi-levels of experience on the boats each day. New divers are guided and taught and experienced divers, once checked out, have options of guided tours or self guided dives. We mostly do boat diving, but many divers take advantage of shore dives from the back of the property, night dives, photography classes, dive courses, etc. This was our 6th or 7th trip to Cayman, but not our last.

My wife and I just returned from a week of diving, 20 dives. Pete and Jaxx were great, there when you needed and still giving plenty of freedom to explore on your own. Stingray city, Balboa at night, orange canyon, ghost mountain, eden rock, and off the beach turtles, octopus, stingrays, green morays, spotted drums, what a great week. Can't wait to go back.

My husband David and I celebrated our 15th anniversary at the Sunset House July 11th-17th. We had an unfortunate "mishap" and the staff was just absolutely amazing. Not only were the dive instructors awesome, but the other fellow divers that we met on our daily dive trips became like family to us. Everyone was extremely helpful and did everything they could to make our stay at the Sunset House memorable. To Phil and Trevor..you guys are great! Mike and Andy..thanks for the help. Jaxx, you Amazon Barbie, you are a riot. And Pete and Simon..couldn't forget you guys either!!
Ken...once again, THANK YOU for helping us in getting everything put back together again.
Would love to return and see you all again....without hesitation..

I led a group of 14 on a scuba diving trip to grand Cayman July 2010. We stayed at Sunset House for one week. Everyone had a great time and really liked this resort. The dive staff was superb. They helped keep everyone safe and ensured everyone enjoyed EVERY dive. The dive boats were fine and well equipped. Beach diving was quite good and very easy. Our group had a package with 2 boat dives/day and unlimited shore diving. Most did 20 dives in 6 days of diving. The rooms are basic, but very clean. The suites & apartment work well for more than 2 per room. We had 4 teenage boys in the apartment and it worked great. Breakfasts were part of our package and were fine with an adequate variety. The two restaurants offer good food at a reasonable price. All the staff was very friendly and did a great job. The outdoor bar attracted many locals and had plenty of room for all.
Sunset House is for divers. It is not a luxury hotel on Seven Mile Beach. If your are there to dive, I don't think you can beat the value, location and ease of Sunset House. Next time I take a group back to Cayman to dive, we will go back to Sunset House.

We just arrived home 4 days ago from our first trip to Sunset House and are already planning our next trip. It isn't often that you go on vacation and come home feeling that you left your friends back on the island. Each person we met at Sunset House made a lasting impression. We can't wait to reunite with our friends again.
We spent 4 nights at Sunset during Tropical Storm Alex with no sunshine, but the best diving experience ever. The Sunset Divers staff, Mike, Trevor, Phil, Andy, Pete, Jaxx, and Greg each made our cloudy days into beautiful and safe diving. This is the first vacation that we have taken where we felt we made friends that we will keep in touch with for years to come, and will reunite with yearly at Sunset House.
For our birthday dinner, we had reservations on the other side of the island, not knowing that the cab fare would be over $140 one-way. Thanks to Glen, he advised us against the trip and then set us up with the best table at Guy Harveys, overlooking the water. It was also one of the best meals we had on the island.
After our daily diving we would hang out at My Bar with our dive buddies, dive instructors, and locals watching World Cup Soccer. Larry, Alina, and Julia took excellent care of us and made us feel right at home.
Sunset House is truly "For Divers, By Divers". If you are on the island strictly for a dive vacation, this is the only place to go. The rooms and amenities are designed to walk in with your wet gear. This is not a beach resort, it is the perfect dive resort.
See you again very soon,
Javier and Ansley
