Thank you, Keith and Karin, for the wonderful food, service, and diving at your resort ! Our adventure started out with a very cheery greeting from " Sunshine " ( Jennifer ) and the friendly service continued on with Olga, Jose, and the rest of your restaurant staff ! The menu had a very nice variety available, with something for everyone ! The rooms were neat and clean, and kept-up every day ! For us " middle-aged dive-addicts ", nothing could beat the dive operation and awesome staff ! Pete, Roger, Lowri, Charlotte, Rhys, Stephen and all were the best and friendliest in the Caribbean ! Their knowledge and expertise ensured that our dives, especially on Big Tunnels and The Kittiwake, were magnificent every time ! This is a " must visit " resort for SCUBA divers who would really like to be spoiled !!
This was my first dive trip and this place was truly AMAZING. I am already looking to see when I can come back again! The top things on my list for this resort are below:
* Unlimited shore diving, anytime day or night.
* Great boat diving! Loved the dive sites we went to especially Eden Rock and Devil's Grotto.
* On site photo shop with a great staff that provided much needed advice for my camera setup.
* Excellent staff that made this an unforgettable experience. The dive staff members were all excellent and knowledgeable. The restaurant and bar staff were also very friendly and I was amazed some of them knew my name after a single day. The hotel staff members were also very friendly and welcoming. Also enjoyed seeing Murphy on his morning walks each day.
* Lockers close to the shore! I never had to worry about anything getting stolen if I left my gear by the shore for a short period of time. Everyone was laid back, relaxed, and there to just have fun and dive. The provided lockers also were in a great location so you didn't have to carry your gear around.
* Amazing food. I agree with Mike, the Mushroom Ravioli was my favorite. I think I had it 3 times that week!
Thanks Sunset House for a great trip!
Mike, we will work on getting you the Mushroom Ravioli recipe
It was wonderful to spend the week with you, your team took good care of us while at our visit. I would like to extend my thanks to everyone who we came in contact with! After sharing my weekend with my colleagues at gadgetronx, I have no doubt that someone from here including myself will be returning. Keep up the good work, the world needs more places like this. Thank you.
My wife and I just spent 12 days in Sunset House with 10 days of diving. I had high expectations based on the positive reviews on TripAdvisor, but all my expectations were exceeded. This is the perfect hotel for divers. The rooms are large, clean, very comfortable and well equipped without over-the-top luxury or frills. Little touches though, like the extra towels fresh every day are appreciated by those spending all day in and out of the sea. We had an ocean view room, and what a view! We could literally walk 10 steps from our private balcony and drop into the warm ocean "pool". The hotel layout means there is always a view of the ocean but sunset seen from the large deck of the on site "My Bar" is incredible. The staff were exceptional - everyone from the security guard to the ever busy gardeners were cheerful and pleasant, but the waiters deserve special mention - friendly and cheerful and extremely efficient. They knew our names from the very first day and never failed to greet us as we passed on the way to another superb dive. The food that they served is also fantastic. Diver-friendy wraps, fish tacos and salads make for great lunches and the other International dishes are delicious and beautifully presented, but the Indian menu is just out of this world. We had breakfast included in our rate and it was also very generous with a large variety of options to choose from.
As for the diving - Sunset Divers are fantastic. All the staff go out of their way to make sure everyone is happy but Simon, Roger, Reese and Aaron were exceptional and had us continually in hysterics.
The boats are good, fast and comfortable for divers without being overcrowded and the dive sites are varied. Shore diving from the hotel is also excellent. We particularly enjoyed going out to visit "Puppy", the friendly Grey Angelfish resident on the wreck of the Nicholson. It's also the only place I've ever come face to face with a submarine while scuba diving!
Also couldn't fail to mention Murphy, the dog who manages to be even more welcoming while taking Keith, the manager, for his morning and evening walks.
Just a note of thanks to Trevor and the rest of the guys and girls at the dive shop. Trevor is an excellent instructor and the other guys on the boat, Rhys, Aaron, Roger, Pete and ... sorry forgot the other fellow's name, thanks ever so much for looking out for me! The girls in the shop whom I met were very friendly and helpful as well.
Sorry for being so tardy but wanted to let you know my wife and I had an absolutely fantastic week 15-22 July at Sunset House. We first stayed/dived Sunset House/Sunset Divers in July 2001 and am happy to report, though the names and faces have changed, the down home hospitality hasn't. The staff and service was exceptional in all areas, with everyone making you feel like family. Diving with the staff at Sunset Divers feels like you've been friends and dive buddies for years. Just a pleasant, hassle free week of fantastic diving, good food and a comfortable place to crash between dives.
Spent 9 days At Sunset House and did 8 days of scuba diving. Great food. Terrific "My Bar". Great friendly staff. Very good dive instructors. Great dive sites and shore diving. No beach diving - jump off the wall into 10' of water. Ladder exit. Reasonable rates. Great place for couples and families who want to scuba dive. Free breakfast with you stay. A must do - have a "Mudslide" at My Bar after diving for the day.
Thanks Richard for your kind comments.. the Free Breakfast is a big hit and only available with Dive and Non Dive Packages. (Not included on Room Only bookings)
I just got back to work from vacation and I can honestly tell you all that
the best part was our stay at Sunset House! My son loved it and actually
wanted to cancel Disney and Universal to stay at Sunset House another week;
and if I could have done so we would have. As usual the service was the best
and everyone was friendly and helpful to my son Cory and I. He loved the
diving and all the new friends he made there. Special thanks to Tom Levy and
"Doctor Suicide" which is Eric's new nick name (I will let him explain) as
well as everyone else. Yes, we will be back!
I said this to Pete and I mean it; you should teach special classes to
people in the resort business on how to run a resort! Sunset House is
everything I would want in a diving resort. I might be able to squeeze a
trip in this coming Labor Day weekend(ARRIVE FRIDAY AFTERNOON AND LEAVE THAT
FOLLOWING MONDAY) so let me know the single/military and double rate to
include airport transfer, breakfast and diving (2 days of diving)please.
Anyway, thank you all so much for a wonderful time.........
Just returned from a wonderful 7 days at Sunset House. Entire staff could not have beem more accomodating. Everyone went out of their way to help you in anyway they could to make your stay one that would make you want to come back dive, and enjoy the Cayman way of life. I have been to several other resorts and this one by far was at the top of the list. The food was great, the diving excellent, and the rooms very clean. To give an example as to how helpful the dive staff was, on one trip to a dive site I noticed after we left the dock that i had forgotten my regulator. Rather then have me miss the dive, They let me use the spare one they had on the dive boat. Now to me that is above and beyoned what they had to do. I was very greatful. I would suggest if you are planing to go to Grand Cayman, you look at this as the place to stay. Thanks too all of you at Sunset House, hope to see you again really soon. Craig
